Walking through Belgrade’s antiquarian bookstores, I came across these three banned books. Two are from World War II, and the third is from an earlier period.
Many readers have asked me where they could obtain these books (books are written in Serbian), so I am providing publicly available links here for you to download and read. After all, it’s the 21st century, and in today’s liberal age, one should be able to read everything, of course, for the purpose of studying history.

Excerpts from the Talmud – The Jewish Gospel
The Jewish Question – Jaša Tomić
I became intrigued by the exclusivity towards Jews observed in Saint Sava’s “Zakonopravilo,” which led me to delve into the history of the Jewish people. I tried to explore the reasons behind Christian anti-Semitism, which has spanned over two thousand years. As a result, I obtained a few books from modern times that were banned, hidden, and labeled for a long time as “don’t read this.”
The Serbian People in the Clutches of the Jews
The first book, The Serbian People in the Clutches of the Jews, was published in 1941. The author is Milorad Mojić, and it is one of the books approved by German propaganda. You can even see the stamp of the German agency on it, showing that the book was approved for sale.
The book provides excerpts and interpretations from the Talmud, but what interests me is that at the end of the book, there is a list of Jewish companies in former Yugoslavia.

GRAVEL INDUSTRY
In the gravel industry, the most important industry elements are the large pre-sales that were either in the hands of Jews or were under the influence of Jewish entrepreneurs.
In the eight major cement pre-sales of 85 members, 55 were Jews, and on April 21, 18 Jews were in charge. The “Beochinca” coffee factory, which had an annual turnover of 80 million dinars, was in the hands of our Jewish and Hungarian merchants. The “Split” factory with a turnover of 170 million dinars was in the hands of Italian Jews.
Similarly, the double Italian citizenship of the “Dalmacija”, “Jadranco Bakusit”, “Adria Bakusit” were in the hands of our Italian and French Jews, as well as “La Dalmassen” in the hands of French Jews.
CHEMICAL INDUSTRY
All the pre-sales in the chemical industry were concentrated in the hands of Jews, which is clearly evident from the statistics: out of 233 board members, 132 were Jews, and out of 56 directors, 44 were Jews.
The largest pre-sale in “Danmica” in Zagreb with a turnover exceeding 100 million dinars had Jewish directors, deputies, and all directors were Jews. The “Tvorina” pre-sale had a turnover of 50 million. Most shares were in Jewish hands.
“Zorka” (Zagreb i Subotica) had a turnover of 50 million. The receipts were stamped with Austrian, Czech, and our Jewish seals.
Jews always had the predominant influence and in the pre-sales: English-Yugoslav Destilacija, Anglo-Yugoslav Petrolegko a.d. Stanard Ojl, Vakuum Ojl and others.
TIMBER INDUSTRY
The largest and most important branch of industrial production in Yugoslavia was the timber industry.
In our country, there were about 650 larger timber industry companies, and in addition to these, around 2000 smaller ones, especially water-powered sawmills. While smaller companies were mostly in the hands of our people, the larger companies were almost entirely in the hands of local and foreign Jews.
In the 23 largest timber companies, out of 210 board members, 125 were Jews, and out of 56 directors, 44 were Jews.
One of the largest timber companies, A.D. Gutman, whose name is associated with the infamous Našice affair, was owned by Hungarian Jews. It owned its own sawmills, a tannin factory, barrel factories, stone quarries, an iron foundry, fish farming, 50,000 acres of forest, 150 km of its own railway, etc.
The “A.D. for Timber Exploitation” was in the interest sphere of Viennese and Pest Jews. Their conglomerate included the “Bosnian Company for Timber Production” in Banja Luka, “Slaveks,” “Zagreb Barrel Factory,” and other companies.
“Nihag” was also a Jewish company, along with “Dugoselo” and “Jugotanin.”
Other large companies that were in Jewish hands included: Slavonija, the Našice Tannin Factory and Steam Sawmill, Drah Timber Industry, Doblin Timber Industrial Company in Sarajevo, Krivaja, Igar, Jela, Bosna, Una, Varda, Victoria, and others.
SUGAR INDUSTRY
In our country, there were only 8 large sugar factories, of which 6 were private and 2 state-owned. Their annual capacity was 12,500 wagons of sugar and around 6,000 wagons of dried beet pulp.
All private sugar factories were in Jewish hands; their nationalization exists only on paper.
In the 4 largest sugar factories, after “nationalization,” out of 52 board members, 22 were Jews, and out of 8 directors and deputies, 6 were Jews.
The non-Jewish board members were mostly Freemasons, “prominent” people, ministers, former ministers, university professors, etc., who used their “prestige” to cover the ruthless exploitation of these factories to the detriment of farmers, workers, and the state, receiving hefty royalties in return.
The net profit of these factories regularly far exceeded their initial capital.
ALCOHOL INDUSTRY
There were 14 large alcohol industries in our country with a capacity of 24 million liters of absolute alcohol. In addition to these, there were 34 brewing companies with a capacity of 1,500,000 hectoliters of beer.
Jews were absent in only 3 companies.
In the 12 largest companies, Jews were represented as follows: out of 110 board members, 58 were Jews, while the rest were well-paid Christian servants of the Jews. Out of 24 directors and deputies, 22 were Jews.
STOCK EXCHANGES
The influence of Jews in the Yugoslav economy is clearly visible from the stock exchange listings of individual markets.
At the Zagreb stock exchange: out of 20 listed shares of financial institutions, 11 were related to Jewish ones; out of 16 listed shares of industrial companies, all were related to companies within the Jewish sphere of interest; out of 3 listed shares of trading companies, two were related to Jewish ones.
At the Belgrade stock exchange: out of 19 listed Belgrade financial institutions, 9 were related to Jewish ones; out of 14 listed industrial companies, 7 were related to Jewish ones.
At the Ljubljana stock exchange: out of 4 listed shares of financial institutions, 2 were related to Jewish ones; out of 9 listed shares of industrial and trading companies, 6 were related to Jewish ones.
At the Novi Sad stock exchange: all listed shares were related to Jewish institutions.
In the National Bank, within the discount committees that decide on the allocation of loans, Jews were represented as follows: in the Varaždin branch, out of 5 members, 3 were Jews; in Bitola, out of 7 members, 3 were Jews; in Osijek, 3 were Jews; in Sarajevo, Skopje, and Pančevo, there were 2 Jews each, and one in Banja Luka, Petrovgrad, Vršac, Zagreb, Maribor, Mostar, Niš, Novi Sad, and even in Cetinje.
The credit of the National Bank in 1926, the allocation of which was decided by Jews, amounted to over 1,300 million dinars, while banking, industry, and commerce received the remainder, which in reality means that a large portion of the credit was enjoyed and exploited by Jews.
In the mortgage bank, the deputy manager and the chief secretary were Jews.
In the Craft Bank, there were Jews both on the Board of Directors and in the branches.
In Belgrade banking, the influence of Jews was decisive. In the 20 largest financial institutions in Belgrade, out of 152 board members, 86 were Jews, and out of 30 directors, 20 were Jews.
How much of this is accurate, I do not know. This is certainly good material for our historians to research.
Excerpts from the Talmud – The Jewish Gospel
The second book, Excerpts from the Talmud – The Jewish Gospel, is a short book of only 15 pages, which actually presents the most horrifying excerpts from the Talmud, explaining to Jews that they are the rulers of the world and that ordinary people are cattle or “goyim.”

Writer and journalist.
Owner, publisher, and editor of the newspaper ‘Traveler Around the World’. The first public and main instigator of the antisemitic movement in Croatia.
There are a few interesting parts, for example, it warns Croats not to turn against Serbs, as this is precisely the Jewish plan. Another interesting fact is that it mentions how the first book on the Talmud in Serbia was published by Vasa Pelagić, and that he suffered for it as Jews threw him into an asylum, where he eventually died.
The book was published by Milan Obradović – an American who calls himself a Goy but one who does not shy away. The book was likely published in Zagreb before World War I.

Translation:
It is allowed to pretend in front of an infidel (non-Jew) in order to avoid harm and deceit. (Tr. Lotta f. 41 2.)
-Take the life of the best heretic, if you can. (Tr. Aboda. s. f. 62. 2. and Ven. Soph. 13. 1.)
-It is permissible to kill anyone who denies the Jewish faith. (Tr. Pes. f. 122. 2.)
-It is justifiable to eliminate a heretic. (Ib. f. 4. 2. Tes)
-Whoever sheds the blood of non-Jews offers a sacrifice to God. (Falk. Schim. F. 247. 3. Bemid. b. r. p. 21. f. 229. 3.)
-The commandment “Thou shalt not kill” applies only to Jews, not to non-believers (Orao, Maimonides. Fad ch. 4. 1. f. 47. 1.), because
-Whoever kills a single Jewish soul is considered to have killed the entire world, and whoever preserves a single Jewish soul is considered to have preserved the entire world. (Tr. Sanh. f. 37. 1.)
-Even the best among the Christians should be drowned. (Rashi 14. ed. am. 7. a.)
Regarding property or private ownership, the Talmud teaches:
-God gave power and rights to the Jews (Israelites) over the possessions and wealth of all nations (Seph. Ik. 3. Sr. 25. It. Falk. Schim. F. 83. 3. p. 533)
-It is allowed to rob a non-believer, and also to withhold his wages (Bebam i. 111. 2.)
-Moses’ commandment “Thou shalt not steal” means not to steal or harm a Jew, but not a non-believer (Saph. Niz. 105. 2. “Orao” Maimonides).
-For a Jew, theft is not considered theft, because the whole world belongs to them by God’s will. They are only taking what is rightfully theirs. (Ibid.)
Regarding found items, the Talmud teaches:
-Whoever finds a lost item belonging to a non-believer and returns it, sins against God, because by doing so, he strengthens the power of the infidel. (“Orao”. Maimonides fed. Ch. 4. 11. 3. f. 31. 1.; and Tr. Sanh. F. 76. 2.; Tr. Baba k. F. 113. 2.) If a Jew finds a receipt he gave to a non-believer for borrowed money, he need not return it, as the obligation ends as soon as the Jew finds it. If the finder voluntarily wishes to return the receipt in God’s name, the rabbi must say: “If you wish to honor God, do what is necessary, i.e., do not strengthen the power of the non-believer, and keep what God has given you by law.” (Rabbi Jeruham. Seph. Mesch. 51. 4.)
“The Jews and their wrath fled from Europe to America. In Serbia, a certain Vasa Pelagić published the Talmud in a Serbian translation – and the Jews put him in an asylum, where he eventually died. In Novi Sad, a certain Sima Stanojević, a merchant, published excerpts from the Talmud in Serbian – and the Jews destroyed his work and ruined his capital of 100,000 crowns. In Hungary, an anti-Semitic newspaper called Ištoci was started, and after just three issues, the editor fled abroad, and to this day no one knows where he is… And I ask you, gentlemen, Croatian followers of Moses, what do you plan to do with me? On your stamp is Milan Obradović – a Goi (who does not flee).
Zionism and its opponents.
The Sisački Glas, in its 18th issue from 1906, published the following: We have always emphasized that, as far as we are concerned, all Jews are the same. No matter how much they quarrel among themselves, when it comes to rising against us, they are always united as our opponents. Jews, although scattered around the world and among all nations, still remain Jews and, to this day, have not adapted to the people among whom they live. Many claim that the fault lies with these nations, as the Jews refused to renounce their nationality. The truth of this is mostly spread by the Jews themselves, who say that the reason is because they were despised, mistreated, and persecuted everywhere. It is true that this happened in many places, but an even greater truth is that Jews in certain countries were, and still are, favored and given rights that others did not have.
Let’s consider the present. Everywhere they are equal, everywhere they are favored, to the point that today they have almost all the money in their hands, and in some countries, a significant portion of real estate as well.
And all of this is not enough for them, they keep going further. The Jews strictly adhere to the principle that the world was created for them and for their sake, and that other nations were created solely to serve them. This principle authorizes them to seek world domination, and to achieve it, they have established the rule: ‘conquer money and the dominion of the world will be yours.’ The best evidence that they are not far from this is their most recent movement. Namely, the Jews want to be recognized in all countries as a distinct nationality, equal to every other nationality. Since there are Jews in all the countries of the world, and since a recognized nationality in one country has the right to maintain at least a moral connection with the same nationality in another country, a new era is dawning upon you if you do not have Talmudic dogmas in your head, meaning if you have not studied the ‘Jewish school.’ Please, what kind of person will you be when you enter society? You will become independent. As soon as you leave your home: in front of you is a Jew! And you have no idea about this Jew because you don’t know what the Talmud is. And precisely because of that, just as you begin to live and serve, you fall into the Jew’s pocket… and you remain there, peeking out from the Jew’s pocket until death, because he needs you, he holds you perpetually in check in his own way… And precisely because of that, he is your master, and you are his slave… Please, you’ll be a judge, how will you judge a Gentile and a Jew when they come before you? Whoever is not familiar with the Talmud does not know what a Jew is… if Croatian brothers studied what the Talmud is, they wouldn’t provoke or cause disturbances against Serbian brothers and vice versa… You are Croatian, fine, let’s assume you argue with a Serb, will you harbor hatred against him until death? Couldn’t there come a time when you might be friends again? It could happen… but with a Jew, you have no friend anywhere (except a false one), why? Because he doesn’t consider you a human being at all, but rather an animal… And why is that? Here’s what the Talmud teaches about Jews and their neighbors: God loves Jews more than angels (Tr. Cholin f. 91.2.)
“The Jewish Question” by the famous Jaša Tomić.
Unlike the previous two authors, who are not well-known, probably because their books were published during the German occupation, the author of the third book is the famous Jaša Tomić (1856-1922). Many streets bear his name. He was a publicist and politician from Vojvodina who lived during the Habsburg era, and one of the most respected leaders of the Serbs who fought for the annexation of Vojvodina to Yugoslavia. He wrote many books, but interestingly, this book is not listed on his English Wikipedia page. Censorship after World War II was strong, and the biographies and works of many people were corrected. It was not allowed to say anything against Jews.
You can read the book; it’s not large, and you can go through it in just one day. Here are some interesting excerpts:
“When it comes to that, we should also point out in passing that those who think the disagreement between Serbs and Croats stems from different religions or scripts are gravely mistaken. God forbid! This disagreement has deeper causes; it stems from different political aspirations, which, unfortunately, are far too great between Serbs and Croats today. And until those are resolved, no matter how much we desire it, we simply cannot believe in the sincere and lasting reconciliation of Serbs and Croats.”
On Ancient Anti-Semitism
“We will, in fact, prove that anti-Semitism throughout the ages has never fought against the Jewish religion, but against Jewish morality, Jewish views, and Jewish aspirations.
These ‘prophets’ eventually foretold to their corrupt nation what would befall them. The words of the prophet Jeremiah: ‘Not one stone will be left upon another’ were fully realized with the destruction of Jerusalem.
Christ did not rise against the Old Testament; Christ accepted as the basis of his religion the same ‘Ten Commandments of God’ that Moses wrote, and that the Jews had even before Christ.
Christ’s teaching, the pure doctrine he preached, was aimed against ceremony. ‘You know the commandments of God,’ he tells the Jews, ‘but you do not follow them. You go to the temple, but you trade there,’ he says, and he drives the Jewish priests, mired in immorality and filth, out of God’s temple with a whip. It is not enough for him that someone like the Pharisee beats his chest in front of the altar; he demands actions and points to the Samaritan. Christ takes up the cause of the poor and oppressed; he preached equality, saying, ‘You are all equal.’ Yes! Christ wanted the Ten Commandments of God to be followed, not just whispered before the altar, and that is the main reason he rose against the Jewish religion of the time. But all was in vain.
The Jews were drowning in demoralization; their institutions were miserable and shabby, their laws poor, and delicate flowers do not grow in dung, no matter how many times you plant and water them. It was necessary to transform the very ground so that it would be different. “A little water” helps little here. Today, for example, you uprooted evil, but if the soil remains old, the evil will sprout again. It was therefore necessary to overthrow Jewish state institutions; but there was no one strong enough to do so. The political party of the Jews, the so-called “Pharisees,” who sought more liberal and democratic institutions, was not strong enough to break through. Christ had taken on a gigantic task, he renounced Judaism, and began preaching universal freedom for all people. The apostles, and even more so the dignitaries of the church, distorted Christ’s teachings, leading them astray and smothering them in mere ceremonies. The Jews had just enough power and state authority to crucify Christ, and, as a state, to die forever…
So, in a few words, that is the history of ancient anti-Semitism. That history is quite multifaceted, and we repeat it in a few lines.”
About the Talmud
“When a drop of water falls on hot iron, it doesn’t hiss as much as the Jews and their friends hiss when that fatal word is mentioned in literature and journalism: the Talmud.
Always quick to call for the police and the prosecutor, their first claim is that it’s – provocation. With apparent indignation, but in reality with incomparable arrogance, Jews deny the ability of anyone other than rabbis to engage in discussion about the Talmud. ‘A true translation of the Talmud does not exist,’ they say, ‘and the Jewish original cannot be understood by laymen.’ – True!”
However, in more recent times, the professor of oriental languages at the University of Prague, Dr. Rohling, published an entire book of excerpts from the Talmud. From this book, it is clear that the Talmud contains moral and beautiful teachings, divine expressions of love for one’s neighbor, but it is also clear that according to the Talmud’s teaching, a Jew must consider only another Jew as his neighbor. Any non-Jew, not only is not a Jew’s neighbor, but is not even a human being, and as such, every Jew must strive to deceive, ruin, and even kill the non-Jew. The expressions with which the Talmud describes non-Jews are so low and brutal that we will not even repeat them here.”
Jaša points out that “there is much in the Talmud that contradicts the Ten Commandments of God” and that this is the main reason for the conflict between Christians and Jews. He also mentions that the period from the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 A.D. until 1040 is referred to in Jewish history as the “Talmudic era.”
“Dominique, a great Talmudic scholar, rose in 1239 and accused the Talmud to Pope Gregory IX. The pope convened a tribunal, which sentenced the Talmud to be burned. French King Louis did not believe either the pope or the tribunal he had convened and set up his own court. This court was presided over by the then chancellor of the University of Paris; the king himself attended. He summoned Dominique, who had accused the Talmud, and summoned the rabbis who defended it, allowing them to present their views. Rabbi Yahiel, the chief speaker for the rabbis, defended his position well but had to admit many things, and the new court confirmed the original sentence. Bonfires were erected throughout France, and all the copies of the Talmud they could find were burned, all as the sentence stated, “for wickedness and immorality.” A few decades later, in 1264, King James of Aragon also ordered the Talmud to be burned.”
So why don’t these gentlemen tell the truth? Why don’t they at least admit that they no longer preach to their people in synagogues the parts of the Talmud “that contain hostile expressions and instructions against other nations and religions?” Then no one could blame them; but in their arrogance, they want to deny the truth in front of the whole world. This is unwise because in this way, they prove their connection with every point of the Talmud. They are defending something that can neither be defended nor should be defended today, and we believe that this will bring them negative consequences in the future.”
“They tried to incorporate wise laws and practical advice into the Talmud (“Don’t pour out dirty water before you’ve obtained clean water”). They instructed their people to love and help one another as brothers, but on the other hand, they instilled a fierce hatred against their political enemies, against anyone who was not Jewish. Thus, the Talmud established a kind of political religion; it aimed to teach the Jews in those barbaric times how to preserve their nationality and material “struggle for survival.”
Moses also flattered this Jewish arrogance, incorporating it into his religion. “The true God is the God of the Semites, the God of the Jews,” they say. Therefore, anyone who is not a Semite, not a Jew, cannot find true bliss within the Jewish Church; a true Jew must be born that way. The Jewish religion is a national religion, it is justly confined only to Jews.
Christ took a different path; instead of religious nationalism, he began to preach internationalism. Christ’s faith is not the faith of one people, but the faith of humanity, the faith of all people. The God whom Christ preached does not recognize any “chosen people,” but considers all people equal, all of them His children with equal rights. After what we have said so far, it is clear that the Jewish religion was very appealing and flattering to the Jews. They resisted Christianity because Christianity sought to take away their “religious supremacy” and equate them with other nations. But it is also evident why the Jewish faith could not enchant or captivate other nations. Why would they need a religion that, as non-Jews, preemptively closes the doors to bliss?”
How the Persecution of Jews Began
“In the vast Frankish state, Charlemagne did much for the Jews; and King Louis treated them with extreme friendliness. He allowed them to employ Christian workers, to keep servants, and even to trade with slaves. For the sake of the Jews, King Louis ordered that the fair should no longer be held on Saturdays, when Jews celebrate, but on other days. The king also appointed a special official (Magister Judeorum) who had to ensure that Jewish rights were not violated. But not only in the Frankish state, but also in Poland, Jews were allowed to keep Christian slaves, and the castles and palaces that Jews built in the 11th century in Bohemia and Moravia clearly testify that they were then nobles.”
“When the Jew Jehuda Ibn-Ezra became a court teacher in Spain in 1149, he obtained the right to persecute the so-called Karaites, who wanted to reject the Talmud and follow the old Jewish faith. The fanatical rabbi Solomon and his disciple Jonah accused the so-called Maimonists before the Dominicans. (The Maimonists wanted to reform the Talmud and reconcile it with the philosophy and spirit of the time). ‘You burn unbelievers and heretics of your church,’ Solomon told the Dominicans, ‘so at least burn the heretics of our faith.'”
“Moses’ faith at least preached morality, but Talmudism, which developed from that faith, did not. Talmudism spread immorality and even legalized it. The Talmudic principle: ‘Love one another; help one another, but deceive, hate, and kill all those who do not believe in your faith,’ is not a moral principle, but one that better suits a band of robbers.”
“For a full twenty centuries, two thousand years, the Jews stared at the Talmud as cats at a flame, dedicating themselves entirely to it. ‘The main occupation of the Jews in those days was the study of the Talmud,’ says Graetz, ‘they even deprived themselves of sleep just to study it.’ The consequences of this did not fail to appear. Jews were fraternally welcomed into all countries because people did not know them. They felt pity for the exiles, and for a while, they were treated well. But when the Jews began to act, and the nations got to know them, then the persecutions and expulsions began.”
The Hadrian Law (154 A.D.), which was later renewed by Emperors Constantine and Heraclius, clearly shows the significance of medieval anti-Semitism. This law forbade Jews from living in the part of the city where Christians lived. It meant: ‘We and the Jews have completely different views on the world and morality; we are incompatible.'”
The Justinian Edict (532 A.D.) went even further. This law sought to prevent all the harmful consequences of Jewish immorality. Here’s what it says: ‘Jews cannot testify against Christians, only one against another.’ Jews see this provision as unjust, but they have no right to do so. Let them remember what the Talmud teaches them. The Talmud commands Jews to give false testimony against Christians if it can harm them because false testimony in this case is not considered a sin. Jews worshiped the Talmud at that time, they lived by it, and didn’t Justinian have the right to protect Christians from false Jewish testimony? Many other restrictions on Jews arose from similar motives.”
The Jews were later ousted from official positions, and they were eventually forbidden to keep servants and trade in slaves. This was again due to the Talmudic orders that a Jew must deceive and exploit non-Jews wherever possible. – When one immerses oneself for a moment in the economic relations of the Middle Ages, it becomes immediately clear that the state laws of that time had to forbid Jews from crafts and property, because otherwise, Jews would have had the opportunity in both cases to employ Christian workers and Christian apprentices, and thus deceive and exploit them.”
The only thing Jews were allowed was trade, but even here, the legislators of that time felt it their duty to warn the Christian world: “Look, this is a Jew, and his religion commands him to deceive and ruin you. Beware of him!”
Thus, the “Jewish badge” emerged, essentially a decree that required Jews to wear a yellow or colored patch on their outer garment, and in some areas, they were also required to wear special caps. This was so that people would recognize them and know at a glance who they were dealing with.
Many Jews, and even some Christian historians, mark all these orders as persecution of Jews, seeing in them some kind of barbaric cruelty, injustice, and religious hatred. However, none of that is true. Jewish synagogues and their religion were never touched. The people of that time were merely defending themselves from Jewish corruption; they did not want to allow Jews to ruin them according to the principles of the Talmud.
For instance, the assembly of Jewish rabbis held in Mainz in 1223 advised their people to refrain from dishonest practices towards Christians, such as making counterfeit money, cheating, etc. But that advice did not help, and the Christian world grew increasingly hostile towards Jews. Charles IV ordered his princes, in the “Golden Bull,” among other things, to tolerate Jews in their territories. This order indicates that, by that time, the princes had already begun expelling Jews. It is known for sure that Louis IX expelled part of the Jews from France in 1254, though not permanently.
All these expulsions of Jews cannot be attributed to the whims of the rulers of the time. On the contrary. For instance, when King John of France accepted the Jews back (in 1360), he allowed them to return on the condition that they reform, giving them a period of 20 years to prove their changed way of life. Those twenty years passed, but the Jews remained the same. Their priests flattered the king, showered the greedy French courtiers with money, and King John signed an order extending the original 20-year period by another 5 years. The people rebelled against this, and in 1380, a great uprising and attack on the Jews erupted in Paris. Similarly, the assembly of Czech notables decided in 1542 to expel the Jews from the land.
Emperor Ferdinand resisted for a long time, but eventually, frequent public uprisings against the Jews forced him to enforce the decision and expel the Jews from lower Austria, Graz, and Prague. Even Graetz himself acknowledges this in his history. “The Prague Jewish community,” he says, “was in very bad repute, even among its own kind. It was considered malicious, lowly, unscrupulous, extortionate, and selfish.”
The leaders of that Jewish community committed all kinds of crimes, openly bribing false witnesses. But while acknowledging this, Graetz defends his Jewish compatriots by saying, “When the Jews were first expelled from Prague, both the good and the bad left, but when they were allowed to return, only the Jewish riffraff came back.”
We believe that we have provided enough examples to clearly demonstrate that the Middle Ages did not persecute Jews but merely defended themselves from their corruption. That era did not know how to reform Jewish morality or change their views, and when they finally resorted to raising bonfires and burning Jewish Talmudic books, it was already too late. By that time, the Talmud had already become so ingrained that it had, so to speak, “come to life,” flowing through their veins and being passed down through bloodlines from father to son.
On the Press and Jewish Supremacy Over Other Nations
The Jewish organization “Alliance Israélite Universelle” includes Jews from all over the world. What is the goal of this organization? Does it fight for the equal rights of Jews? Not at all. The president and founder of the organization, Crémieux, clearly explained the aim of this society in Paris in 1860. According to his words, the goal of the Jewish organization is to strive with all its might to achieve economic and political supremacy and dominance of Jews over other nations.
Often, a single Jew with a bundle on his back sneaks into a village, and in a decade, you will see that through “speculation” he has become the wealthiest landowner, while the entire village is not only deeply in debt but also morally corrupted. He spreads corruption to advance more easily: he stirs the waters to fish more conveniently. These Jews do not earn their bread by the sweat of their brow; they neither have more capital nor more education than other non-Jewish traders, yet they “advance” the most. When one of our traders goes bankrupt, he commits suicide, and even his neighbors point fingers at his children; but when a Jew goes bankrupt, the more often he does it, the more credit and respect he gains in the Jewish trading world because it is well known that he didn’t go bankrupt out of necessity but out of speculation.
But here we almost began to prove that snow is white, talking about things that are visible to all of us and need only to be pointed out. We simply want to add that all the miseries we see in villages are even greater in the cities, and that the misfortune caused by Jews in a district can be measured and proven with numbers. Here’s an example: The districts of Pozsony and Wieselburg are much more fertile and richer than many other districts in Hungary. Therefore, the residents of those districts should be much better off than those in other districts. But no. In those districts, there are the most Jews, and the people are the poorest. In the Wieselburg district, the population has been so squeezed by the Jews that over 2,000 souls have left their homes and emigrated to America. Whoever doesn’t understand this, it’s pointless to explain to them for a hundred years. And from all this, it is clear that Jews, if not the only, are certainly one of the main causes of our rapidly growing poverty.
There, in the capitals of our monarchy, in Vienna and Pest, at the sources of our “glory and greatness,” from where the sun of enlightenment and culture that should shine on us rises, there are no Roman walls, but there is something worse. There, journalism is in Jewish hands. This journalism lies, cheats, steals, and corrupts.
For a few coins, for two coins per word, you can write anything there.
The last page of these “world newspapers” has no other purpose than that of those fallen Roman walls. There you will find not only girls but also men seeking clients. You will find, for example, ads offering “a young, handsome, healthy man, even to older and unattractive ladies as a – secretary.” These so-called major world newspapers play the shameful role of procurers, and the police, who punish old toothless women for such things, do not pay attention to the Jewish city newspapers that do the same.
It is said in journalistic circles that Jewish editors have been inventing and printing such ads for years, just to entice people to do the same. The Jews have created an entire literature of depravity in our capitals, producing some spicy illustrated papers that depict naked bodies and print words that make blood rush to the face.
And when those poor, unfortunate, inexperienced women, due to the efforts of these journalistic procurers, slip up, and one day you see them walking in silk dresses, high heels, and with provocative looks in public places, those same journalists in the front pages of their newspapers raise an outcry about how their wives can’t walk in public places because of these “creatures.”
Such behavior leads one to think that these journalists only demand from the police to ban these poor creatures from walking the streets so that they are forced to use newspaper ads in their profession, thereby giving a portion of their shameful earnings to the Jewish editors. Thus, Judaism has taken control of the metropolitan press and spreads depravity throughout the state.
The Jewish press does other harm as well. It is entirely for sale. Railway companies, financial institutions, and all major enterprises are in its hands. Just as the furious Arabs demanded “marriage fees,” and as the German nobles in the Middle Ages came down from their castles to rob merchants “in the name of free passage,” so too does the Jewish press demand a share of the profits from the named companies. This must be given to them. They unfortunately control public opinion, and the best, most solid enterprises must give them a share; otherwise, not a word will be said about them in public, or they will end up with a hundred flaws. But the worst enterprises, they praise and extol – for money. This lures their trusting readers into traps, and they care little that these readers may lose their entire fortunes in these ventures.
In Austria-Hungary, Jews are the biggest enemies of national reconciliation.
How many times have Austrian Germans risen to reconcile with the Slavs, only to be thwarted by the Jewish press? The same is true in Hungary. The biggest “Hungarians” among us are the Jewish editors of “Pest Lloyd.” Woe to the Hungarian who speaks well of the nationalities, for they would swallow him whole and brand him as a traitor. They wear a Hungarian mask to slander and malign the nationalities in the darkest ways before the Hungarians, all to ensure that the state never escapes this national struggle and conflict, and never establishes progressive and useful institutions. They want it to remain rotten, for only where there is rot do the “Jewish worms” thrive and prosper.
From everything we have said so far, it is clear that the Jewish question is economic, ethical, political, and everything else, but not religious.
On the Struggle Against the Jews
We have spoken about the past of anti-Jewish sentiment, and we have outlined the life and work of Jews in the present. From this, it can be seen that anti-Semitism today practically lies in the air, that it is progressing and will continue to grow.
Now we turn to examine the future of anti-Semitism. The future of anti-Semitism will undoubtedly develop from the present, so it is right to consider the program of today’s anti-Semitism.
If we look at the history of recent years, we will see that in certain parts of Russia, Germany, and Hungary, there have been frequent uprisings against the Jews. And during that time, there were also two anti-Jewish congresses, which sought to peacefully remove the danger posed to us by the Jews.
The stage at which anti-Jewish sentiment stands today can only cause fear. Today’s anti-Jewish parties have much stronger fists than actual programs.
The anti-Semitic movement has primarily arisen among the common people. The common people have long cried out against the Jews, far more than writers and journalists have done. In Russia, in Germany, and even here, the people in some regions have risen with sticks against the Jews because they did not know how else to help themselves. Had there been aware and educated leaders among the people in those regions, perhaps there would not have been such beatings and attacks, because those leaders would have led the people into a constitutional struggle against the Jews. After all, we point to history. We point to the Middle Ages and its frequent peasant uprisings. Back then, there were no newspapers or conferences, yet the people still rebelled by their own reasoning.
We say this: the large number of anti-Semites, which grows day by day, and the dead anti-Semitic program, do not appeal to us. Anti-Semitism can no longer be prevented; therefore, its program must be developed and this issue must be resolved peacefully. It is necessary to work on ensuring that when the people get tired of the hardship they suffer from the Jews, they come before the assembly and say: do this and that, rather than start strangling and beating Jews again.
Didn’t the whole of Europe “get upset” in 1882, when Russia expelled a part of the Jews from its state? No one wanted to take those Jews in. At that time, diplomats said that every state must keep its own Jews and must not force them on others.
During the reign of Domitian, a special “Jewish tax” was introduced. At that time, Jews hid their origins. Tax collectors would strip and examine them, but we would surely not do that today. However, no matter how or by what means you limit them, they would hide their origins because they would convert. What good would come of that? What difference does it make to take a wolf to church? A wolf remains a wolf.
On Sick Law
“Every nation has a certain view of what is right and what is not, what is good and what is evil. This view is not the same for all nations. Some nations consider one thing good, while others consider it bad. Whether a nation has more or less moral views depends on its level of education, religion, and cultural characteristics. The national view of what is good and what is evil forms the concept of – law. The concept of law has taken root in every nation, and from it has developed the so-called ‘customary law.’
Customary law, when written and codified, is called – a law. The famous political writer Bluntschli says in his book “Allgemeine Staatslehre” on this matter:
“If written law is not based on the ‘customary law’ of the people, and if customary law differs from the people’s perception of right and wrong, then the legal relations in that state are – sick.”
These sick relations have arisen today, not only here but almost throughout Europe. Laws today often judge differently than what people think is right. Don’t we see cases every day where the law leaves someone unpunished, whom ‘public opinion’ condemns the most, and vice versa?
In those times when individual states were underdeveloped, when states lacked the power and strength to judge and condemn, there were no laws. The national view of what is good and what is evil was passed from father to son, so everyone at least knew what was right. There was, therefore, law, but as we said, there were no written laws. In such states, there were no paid judges either; both parties in a dispute would choose a court from among their friends, and that court would resolve the dispute. In Albania, Montenegro, and even Boka, this situation existed until recently. Montenegro is currently in transition, and in Boka Kotorska, the ‘Austrian Code’ has been introduced, but the population at that time barely accepted it.
In both these countries, when a dispute arises, the inhabitants choose a peace court from private individuals, and that court resolves the matter according to the people’s understanding and customary law. When the state develops, it takes on the role of defending individuals’ rights.
What the people consider right is written into paragraphs and becomes – law, which is binding for everyone. But even then, there are few laws and few lawyers, and justice is administered differently in that the ‘elected court,’ chosen by the disputing parties, judges according to written law, and its decision is binding. Whoever rebels against that decision rebels against the law, against the state. One should not think that such legal relations existed only in patriarchal and underdeveloped states, as that would be untrue. We find such legal relations in the developed Roman Republic and even in Athens, especially when these states were at the peak of their development.
When castes developed, each with its own separate interests, states had to intervene to protect individuals from injustice and create written laws. In recent times, people are searching for some ‘ideal’ law. They want everyone to be judged equally, and they cling to written laws like a drunk clings to a fence. They created so many laws that you can’t even remember their names. Now entire scientific judges are needed, entire hordes of lawyers are needed, and a person alone cannot move through the courts without them. But is it better? Certainly not. One mess has led to another.
Our justice has gotten lost in mere – formality. It is not judged by what happened but purely by the paragraph. And although there are several thousand paragraphs, still more cases happen in the world. Every case today must be reduced to some paragraph, whether nicely or by force, it doesn’t matter, as long as it is reduced because otherwise, it cannot be judged. And now, in our justice system, form is everything, and the case itself is nothing.
A skilled lawyer can get you off the gallows, take your property, close your business, save you, or ruin you. If you deal with the court today, it is necessary to have a right, but it seems even more necessary to have a good lawyer. If your lawyer misses the slightest formal detail, you are ruined, but if he catches the opposing lawyer making a formal mistake, you win the case. And the right? Today, that comes second. You can be three hundred times right, and the judges will tell you that you are right, but they will still condemn you if there is a ‘formal snag.’”
Our laws have placed paragraphs on all slippery paths. These are legal guards, and whoever walks those paths encounters the paragraphs and – suffers the consequences. But besides the main roads, there are so many paths and trails in today’s world that lead to deceit and dishonesty that the law does not have enough paragraphs to guard them all. Those who wrote the laws do not know all these “crooked paths”; those paths are known only to people who crawl and wallow in dishonesty. Sometimes, someone may reach their goal through deceit, and the court may notice. But under today’s law, they can’t do anything about it.
A crafty criminal can only smile and ask: “Which paragraph did I violate, if you please?” If no such paragraph is found, nothing can be done to him. Such cases occur more often than you might think; they happen every day, hundreds of times. There are people who do nothing else but find crooked ways that lead to others’ property, paths not guarded by legal paragraphs.
Take the case of a contract or obligation. Living witnesses, signed to the contract, testify in court about how the deal was made. However, one of the contracting parties inserted two or three words into the contract that cannot be overturned. Based on that precise insertion, the court must sometimes award the fraudster someone else’s property. The court sees that it’s not a clean deal; it sees that one party aimed to deceive the other, and not only can the fraudster not be punished, but the court even supports him, ordering an execution to secure the fraudster’s ill-gotten gains. The court must act this way because it is bound by today’s laws, laws that judge strictly by paragraphs. Anyone who reads “courtroom reports” will often come across the words spoken by the presiding judge to the plaintiff. These words often go like this: “Sir, the court believes you are truly in the right; the court considers the defendant’s actions dishonest and unjust, but from a formal standpoint, we cannot grant your request. We don’t have a paragraph under which we could convict your opponent.”
So, whoever knows how to deceive in substance but bypasses the paragraphs and doesn’t violate any formality, can cheat in broad daylight without anyone being able to do anything about it. This is the unhealthy state our justice system has reached. And is it any wonder, then, that some people, especially Jews, do nothing but invent ways to deceive others, live off someone else’s sweat, and avoid legal punishment?
We advocate for the establishment of a jury system, a “court of honor.” These courts should not be “private” like some “conciliation courts,” but they should be official, meaning their verdicts would become legally binding and must be enforced.
Jurors, people from the general public, should judge at least in those cases where Jews and other dishonorable people usually deceive and exploit the “gullible public,” for which today’s courts can do nothing. This court should judge according to prevailing principles of justice and fairness. It should condemn not only the foolish but also the cunning fraudsters. Determining which cases should come before the “court of honor” would be easy. All lawsuits where fraud is evident but the regular court cannot find a paragraph for the criminal should automatically be referred to the “court of honor.” It is both disgraceful and shameful that today, some individuals can, under the guise of free competition and due to the incompleteness of the law, deceive, exploit, and rob their fellow citizens. If this continues, the faith of all honest people in justice, fairness, and morality will be shaken, and there will arise a belief that in today’s society, only scoundrels and rascals can flourish.
We are firmly convinced that Jews can only thrive and exploit this world under today’s bad laws. Therefore, we believe that the solution to the Jewish question should be approached in the manner we have outlined. Judging and sentencing should not be based solely on formality but on substance. Justice must be administered in such a way that every immoral, dishonest, and fraudulent act is forbidden. But it is not enough to prohibit; institutions must be created to punish such shameful acts. Institutions must be established that compel everyone to pay attention to morality and fairness. When Jews get punished and burned a few times, they will be more cautious about engaging in actions that yield no profit but only harm and disgrace.
It is clear, therefore, that our proposal contains nothing inherently anti-Jewish. We seek equal and just judgment for all, whether they are Jews or not.
However, we are firmly convinced that the institutions we propose would be most unpleasant for the Jews. And it’s clear why. The only thing in our proposal that could seem anti-Jewish is that, in our opinion, Jews should not be allowed to serve as jurors in the court of honor. Jewish views on fairness and morality differ from our views and morals. What we hold sacred and fair, Jews in their hearts consider foolish. To cunningly deceive and avoid punishment is, to them, a point of pride.”
